TNL was founded in 1938 through the merger of several Nelson and Marlborough transport companies. Later TNL became part of the Newmans Group and then Transpac Holdings, before being privatised in 1989.
TNL has remained a privately owned and operated New Zealand company and is today part of the Transport Investments Group.
